Craig is a Church of God in Christ minister who pastors a Free Methodist church in St. Louis, Missouri.  He completed his PhD in anthropology at the University of Kansas and his dissertation, Cain't Nobody Do Me Like Jesus, is about the bodily experience of worship in African-American Christianity.
